At Five Forks Middle School, we take pride in our reigning VEX Robotics Competition Georgia State Champion Title. There are 4 teams at Five Forks Middle School spanning grade levels from 6th to 8th grade. We all are dedicated to robotics and, as such, spend many hours outside of school working on improving our robot. Being part of such a tight-knit team, we sometimes devote anywhere from 10 to 12 hours a week working on robotics. On competition days, we leave at 6:00 AM and the competition may not end until 6:00 PM.
More About FFMS Robotics
Overview
In the 2018-19 VEX Robotics Competition Season, there are two 7th grade teams and two 8th grade teams that go to competitions. There is also a 5th team that is just learning the fundamentals of coding, engineering and robotics and will transition to competitions next season. Every day, team members show up 45 minutes before school starts to work on the robot and Monday afterschool, team members stay almost 2 hours after school. Our coach (Mr. Griffith) is also the Foundations of Energy teacher at Five Forks Middle School and almost all of the robotics team members are in his class. If team members finish class assignments early, we can go work on robotics.
4 years ago, Five Forks Middle School participated in First LEGO League, which incorporates many of the same robotics principles as VEX. Five Forks Robotics has since moved on, and participated in the VEX Robotics Competition for the first time in the Starstruck Season. A Five Forks Robotics team has qualified for the Georgia Middle School VEX State Championship every year since Starstruck, and even made it to the Round of 16 in the World Championship last year!
