FFMS STEAM Night
First "Competition" Experience
At Five Forks Middle School STEAM Night all 4 of our robotics teams participated in scrimmages to simulate an actual competition and to demonstrate how the engineering process is used to turn pieces of metal into functioning robots.
Brookwood Maker Faire
February 9 at Brookwood High School
At Brookwood Maker Faire, specifically in robotics, we will be showcasing our robots and if any robots qualify for state, we will be testing and demonstrating new and more advanced designs to face tougher competitors at the state competition.
Brookwood Cluster Community
There is a robust community rooted in robotics at Five Forks Middle School. As a small step, 6th graders and 8th graders work alongside each other, helping each other out. The more advanced 8th graders can help the 6th graders do tasks like coding autonomous sequences or troubleshooting an issue. This community extends outside of just our one school. Brookwood High School students occasionally show up to our Monday after-school robotics meetings to work on their robot and help others. Whenever we need specific robot parts, Brookwood can usually pitch in and lend us some of their spare parts. Students from GSMST (Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology) also frequently show up to our Monday meetings to mentor the younger students. When the 8th graders graduate, they may even come back every Monday to help future generations of young, aspiring engineers.
